Assignment #15

I achieved the goals that I gave myself for the semester. I did stay focus and improved my writing. My writing improved because all the feedback that I had after every paper made me realize my mistakes. I stood focus in class for the most part. I had a little trouble but I managed to turn all my paper for every deadline. I would not change these goals because they are very important since they can make me a better writer and student. I would like to grow as a writer because I feel that I have a lot to learn. I want to be able to write a good thesis and be able to identify fragments. I would like to be better at fragments and comma splices. Also, my weaknesses that I have to work on is staying on track when I write. Which means that I should stay on track with my thesis. Second, I need to learn how to explain myself better. I have to remember that my audience does not think like me. In other word, I have met my goals for this semester but there are still weaknesses that I have to improve on.

Assignment #14

I am going to work on my ad analysis paper because I feel that it lacked a lot of evidence to support the thesis. I feel that my paper could have been better if I could have had better explanations. What I did right was that I had a good conclusion because I restated everything. Also, I had a good format.

What I need to do is I have to delete all my evidence because they lack information. I have to chose evidence that supports my thesis. I have to work with my thesis because that is what makes my whole paper. My thesis tells the reader what my paper is going to be about and if my evidence does not support it then my whole paper is wrong.

Second, I have to work on explaining my evidence because some people my not understand what it means. I write certain things because they make sense to me without thinking if other people can understand it. I have get in the habit that not everybody is the same. Therefore, I have to explain my evidence and tell the audience why it is important. I cant just put my evidence without explaining it because if the audience does not understand it than my evidence is weak and worthless.

What I learned from my partners essay is that I have to pick a topic that I really find interesting because I can write what I want instead of searching for information. I chose a topic that I did not like and I found myself trying to find information. However, if I find a topic that captures my interest then I can write freely and express my own opinion. Second, I learned that I have to choose a really good counter argument because if I write a weak one it will make me sound like I did not put any effort. My partners essay had a weak counter argument which made him sound like he did not put any effort on it. Also it made him sound like he was scared that his counter argument will be stronger than his essay. Finally, I learned that my reply should be convincing because it is my last argument therefore, it should capture my readers attention in order to change their mind. My partners essay had a good reply which left me with a change mind.

Assignment #12

My strongest evidence is that woman should not be allowed to work in construction because they cannot lift really heavy material. Woman are more vulnerable to get hurt because they are not as strong as men. Not all women are capable to handle a hard task like construction. In some cases woman are able but no likely. Men are most suited for the job because they are stronger and will be able to do the job faster. Also most women will relate to this because they know that they will not be able to work for long hours lifting heavy material. Also guys can agree that it is hard for them to lift the material which explains that woman will have a difficult time lifting things around. 

My weakest point is that woman should be treated equal. Therefore, they should be allowed to work in construction because men are not the only ones who can handle the job. Some woman have the potential to handle a difficult job like construction. The constitution, said they everyone should be treated the same so one must follow the rules and let woman work. Woman can relate that they can be able to handle the job because not every women is weak. However, is up to the manager to hire them which in most cases wont happen. Woman should be given the same rights as men with no exception. 

Patterns of errors

In my writing, I tend to use a lot of fragments. I usually put more than three fragments in each paragraph. Fragments make my paper sound unprofessional and they seem to lack effort.  Also, I seem to forget to put commas where they are supposed to be. I am not good with dealing with commas because the person who edits my paper always has comments about comma splices. Third, another common error that I seem to make often is run-ons. I will always put two sentences together without a period or comma. I have figured out my errors that I frequently make in my papers so from now one I have to double check my papers for run-ons, fragments, and commas. I think I should also focus on learning how to fix my errors because then my paper will be better. I have been making these errors ever since high school and I believe they have become a habit because I cannot seem to be able to correct them. Nonetheless, I will be more careful with all the frequently use errors that I make in my paper.

Extra Credit

Well I have met many people throughout my life and one thing that really gets my attention is when individuals try to deny their culture. During my spring break I was talking to this one girl who was Mexican but she denied her culture. She said that she was American and that her parents were also U.S citizens. However, it is hard for her to deny her culture because she looks really Mexican. I have met people like her but never asked why they deny their culture if that is something that represents who we are. I told her why she denies her culture. She try to convince me that she was not Mexican but as she saw that I was not falling for her lies she decided to tell me the truth. She said that she feels embarrass that her parents do not have papers and that being Mexican means being poor. I told her that she should be proud of whom she is and that she is not the only Mexican in the United States. There are many people who completely deny their culture because they feel that their culture is worthless. For example, I have met many Mexican Americans who deny their culture because they feel that the American culture is better. When people ask them if they are Mexican they would get offended. They say that they were born here, therefore they are American. They would also deny their parents immigration status. Sometimes I stop and think if they have any remorse because they are denying something really important. Not only are they denying themselves but their family too.

Assignment #9 My Choice

Well my choice is to finish college with a career that I like. I plan to stay focus in school and not lack effort. I know I have to plan now before it is too late because I am a guy who does things at the last minute. In order to follow my plan I have to solve all my problems because I cannot move on while I have problems. In other words, I plan to focus on school and get a job. I plan to stay motivated so the thought of dropping out will not come into my mind. I need to keep an open mind in order to concentrate more in school. I have to finish college with a bachelors and a master degree those are the decision I have to make. I need to get a job in order to pay for my education because it is not free. I also have to make the decision to do well in school so I can get a scholarship. I have stay focus because I know myself and I tend to slack off many times. I have to value my school and career in order for me to stay in school. I know that it is not too late to change so I still have time. All I need to do is pay attention and do my homework. I know I can do it I just need to follow the learning process and I will achieve my goals in life.
